Hello world, my name is Cowboy. A beagle with quite a story to tell. Let me bend your ear to tell you of the road that brought me here. I was out on the range, me and a few other cowpokes, roughing it on our own. Then one day fortune shined upon me and I was corralled and rescued. I spent some time at the vet's office where they cared for me. It was hard getting adopted. I'm in the prime of my life, but I guess folks were looking for an untrained puppy. I'll never understand that notion. When people want a job done, don't they look for experience?
I became the chief caretaker, as well as cheerleader at the vets office, looking after a wayward, sickly herd, it's just my nature. The staff would even take me home on weekends because they could not get enough of this hard working cowboy, and I sure did enjoy it.
Then one day, the heavens opened up, the angels began to sing, and lo and behold - I got adopted - it was the happiest day of my life! I finally had a ranch to call my own. Here at the ranch, life sure is good. And thankfully I have a brother and a sister to take care of now. And a mom that sees about me. We enjoy the finer indoor things in life like lying around the fire when it's cold outside, as long as my people are right there along side me. Sure, occasionally me and my pack like to get into a little mischief, like the time I liberated the stuffing from that pillow to show my momma a beautiful indoor winter wonderland. Deep down, I think she thought it was sweet. If it's nice outside, I love to bask in the warm sun.
And I used to like to run... but I've run into a bit of a roadblock there.
They tell me I have a cervical disk issue which has left me unable to walk. You would think a disability like that, to a hardworking cowboy like myself, could do some damage to a spirit. But not me, I have hope that I will one day walk again. I don't lie around and whine, I try to stay positive. And I don't even let this condition remove my most essential training skills - I still let momma know when I need to be taken outside. To not do this would be ungentlemanly like. The treatment for my condition if very expensive but I'm hoping there are some kind souls out there to help me along my journey, and one day... yes, one day I will ride the range again. This cowboy has a lot of life left to live, and a lot of love yet to give.
