Wendy Kirby hasn't added a story.
Dear friends and family,
When I was probably around 13 years old, God placed a desire in my heart to go and serve Him. I wasnt obedient to His call. I chose to do what "I" wanted to do. Over the last 20-something years, that call to serve has always been pushed to the back of my mind. "i cant". "I am not smart enough". "I have nothing to offer". "There are so many others who are better equiped". "I cant afford it". "Maybe when my kids are grown". I have always had an excuse NOT to go where I was called. However, I have always had the "ideal" mission trip in the back of my mind. I knew where I wanted to go, what I wanted to do. I just never planned on actually doing it. I may not have all the knowledge that others have. But through the difficulties in my life, I have been given a gift of compassion and love. I know what it is like to feel hopeless, but to find God in the midst of that. And I am bursting at the seams to share this with others. Not to share my "story" because in fact, my story doesnt matter. What matters is that God loves each and every one of us. No matter where we live, what we have done. We are all His children. Just recently, it was brought up to me, the possibility to go to Nigeria. "NO! Thats not where I have always wanted to go! I am in the middle of nursing school! I am not settled! I can barely afford to pay my own bills! I cant do it". Over the last several weeks, God has broken down each and every one of my excuses. And I have chosen to be obedient.
I want to share with you a challenging ministry opportunity that God has presented to me. From June 20th-June 29th, I have been given an opportunity to travel to Jos, Nigeria with my son through Back to Back Ministries. While there, I will be working with the medical clinic, as a nurse. I also am hopeful to do some teaching of basic first aid, simple things that we take for granted here. I will be working with orphaned children and my desire is that they see how loved they are, how precious they are, and that they see hope for a bright future.
While God has opened up a door for me to develop a greater heart of compassion for His people around the world, the exciting part is that you will be able to share in this compassion with me. My church has a program called SWAP and I wanted to challenge each of you to pray about possibly "SWAPping" something to enable me to get to Nigeria. SWAP simply means, "Sacrificing With A Purpose". I need to raise approximately $3500 to make this trip, in a relatively short period of time. But I am believing God is able. He has called me and will provide the means. But I also believe that sometimes He calls those around us not to "go", but to help one in getting there, as well as prayer support, which is the most important thing I need, becuase I will be honest....I am scared!!! (AND excited!!!)
To SWAP, it is my prayer that instead of just "donating money" (which I will be grateful for, as well!) that you SWAP to donate. That you consider "sacrificing with a purpose". Can you sacrifice ordering pizza Friday night, and instead give that pizza money? (sacrifice-purpose). Maybe its giving up Starbucks for a week. Or making dinner at home Sunday afternoon, rather than dining out. Please pray about SWAPping something, no matter how small, so that I can follow Gods plan, and in turn, you will be ministering, just as I am.
If you are unable to SWAP, but would be willing to pray, I encourage you to let me know! I need all of my friends and loved ones standing beside me during the next few months as I prepare, and as I go.
I plan to share as much as I am able, while I am there, and will post updates and pictures. Thank you all for being a part of my life. Many of you have loved on me when I was in the lowest of places, and now its my turn to give back and bless "the least of these". Wont you please help me?
God Bless,
Wendy (McDaniel) Kirby
