Laurel Hansmann hasn't added a story.
Hello everyone, my name is Laurel Hansmann and I have started this fund raiser for a friend of mine (Mark Carlson) whom has become very ill and is currently in a hospital in Fontana, Ca and in need of some help. Mark and I are over the road truck drivers and both live in N.W. Florida and work for the same company. I have known Mark for many years and consider him a close friend.
Mark was delivering a load in So. California and was at one of our terminals in Fontana, CA when he began feeling ill. He told me that he was having a hard time breathing and his chest hurt, so he called an ambulance and went to the hospital. He has been in the hospital for almost a week and is very ill with some life threatening conditions. He has water on his heart (congestive heart failure) Blood clots in his lungs (pulmonary embolisms) and a bacterial infection. The doctors say he is getting better, and hopefully will continue to do so.
Mark is a very proud man whom has always been very independent and always has been able to take care of and support his family. I know Mark well, and being the proud, stubborn, independent father/husband that he is, I know he would personally never ask for help.
His wife Shana (bless her heart) is currently still in Florida and feeling kind of lost and helpless with Mark 2000+ miles away from home. She wants to be with Mark, but is awaiting more info from the Dr's so she can make a decision on how to proceed. She doesn’t know if she needs to fly out there and then rent a car when Mark is well enough to travel home. Mark isn’t too keen on flying, and also may not be able to do so anyway because of the blood clots. The dilemma is that flying and renting a car one way, especially on short notice is extremely expensive. She may be forced to drive out there and back.
They have two beautiful, and wonderfully talented girls (Meredith and Kinsey) whom they are putting threw college right now. Mark may be out of work for some time and this poses a real heavy burden for him and his family. As a truck driver myself, one of our and our family’s greatest fears is for something like this to happen so far from home. My wife and I cannot imagine what feelings are racing threw Shana and the girls minds right now, and the helplessness they must feel.
I humbly ask everyone who reads this story, to please consider donating to the Carlson family if they can. Mark will surely be off work for an extended period of time. The family is going to need some help to offset the tremendous burden and expenses they are now incurring, and will continue to incur so for some time to come,
Thank you for reading our story, and any consideration you may be able to extend the family. I will be posting updates on his conditon as I get them.
I have also started a Facebook Group that I will be posting on as updates become available. You can view it here,

God Bless,
The Carlson & Hansmann family
