CorgiPals, Inc. hasn't added a story.
December 4, 2013
Happy December! It's time to introduce our newest client of The Baxter Valentine Fund. Mr. Hurley has been having trouble with both bladder stones, and a malignant tumor that is pushing his colon aside and making bowel movements extremely difficult. Here is Hurley's story in the words of Corgi Mom Deborah:
"We are the parents of two rescue Corgis – one 11 yr old
male, Hurley, and a 7 yr old female, Moki. We have had them both
since they were each a few months old. At eight months, Moki was hit
by a car and paralyzed. We spent thousands of dollars on surgery for
her and today she runs like a gazelle with no health problems. A few
years ago Hurley developed bladder stones and required surgery.
Post-operatively, he vomited his antibiotics repeatedly and despite
being advised by the vet that this was normal and to continue the
course he developed scar tissue in his esophagus so severe that he
could not eat solid foods. A huge financial investment on our part
on endoscopy and balloon dilations to break up the scar tissue was
unsuccessful and he has been on blended soft food ever since.
We willingly took all of this on for our beloved pets when we
could do it, but since the recession neither of us have had the
funds. My husband works part-time and I run my own consulting
business. Recently, Hurley has experienced several bouts of
constipation and three visits over the past few weeks – two just
last week – have resulted in over $1,300 in vet bills and
medications. We put off another expense just to pay for this. On
x-ray, a mass was finally discovered that is pushing aside his colon
and making the passing of stool difficult for him. After a biopsy,
the diagnosis was made that he has a sarcoma which may or may not
have metastasized, but it cannot remain. He also has more bladder
stones. Currently he is on anti-inflammatory/pain meds (Rimadyl) and
a stool softener (Lactulose) but we must take him this week to a
specialist for further tests to see if the tumor is operable. After
our experiences with specialists in the past, we know that this will
be several thousand more dollars and we just don’t have it.
Please help us save our pet. He means the world to us."
The cost of surgery to treat Hurley, as well as the necessary diagnostics, will total $4,205. I have set the Fundrazr goal to $4,630 to cover the Fundrazr and PayPal fees as well. Please help spread the word to get this poor boy the care he needs!
