Bella was adopted from a local rescue organization and I have been training her to be a service dog using force free training techniques. While a 501c3 trained dog can take years of waiting as well as cost $20-35k (one organization charges 20k per year "usage fee" for their dogs), many people train their own with the help of a professional trainer. My vision is to learn all I can through training Bella and use those skills to help veterans and others train their own service dogs in the future.

Force free training uses positive reinforcement (no pain, fear or aggression). Unfortunately most trainers aren't using it yet and none show up in our local area during searches for a trainer. As you may know, my original fundrazr goal was for the funds to hire a trainer, but since we have no force free trainers in the area, your donations will go toward training me to complete the course work offered by the Karen Pryor Academy.

Karen Pryor is the originator of clicker training, long time trainer and behaviorist, and author of "Reaching the Animal Mind." The Karen Pryor Academy offers two courses: Foundation ($359) and Professional ($5300). Your donations will get me started on the foundations. Read more about it here:

Bella has a facebook page where you can follow our progress and, hopefully, use some of what we post to work with your own dog(s).

Thank you
