Stray cats are not uncommon, so when the Giles County Humane Association got a call about a stray to be rescued, we were not surprised.  However, the condition of this little boy, turned an ordinary rescue into a critical life-saving trip.

When we first saw Tripod, he was hiding underneath a broken down car covered in weeds.  We could faintly make out a black & white calico pattern well hidden underneath, but nothing could hide those piercing green eyes that caught our every move.  They seemed to glow.

Luring him into a cage was fairly easy with a little aromatic Ocean Whitefish Kitten food, for he was starving. However we did not expect to see the condition of his leg once he was in the cage.  Tripod's left front paw was grotesquely bent at a 90 degree angle.  Because of the angle, he had been forced to drag it along with every painful step he took.  What remained was a withered paw, an oozing abscess, and the foul odor of decay.

Once in a secure area, one of our handlers was able to extract him from the cage.  He welcomed her calm soothing voice and his fear subsided, as he leaned into his handler, licked her hand and began to purr.  There is no doubt this brave little boy had been in pain for quite some time, but he now realized we were here to help.

Tripod is now waiting for surgery. There is severe nerve damage and the leg cannot be saved, and he must be treated with antibiotics before the leg can be removed.  However, he is young enough that the handicap will be something he can easily overcome.  He will need physical therapy, and a Foster/Adopter willing to accept and love a Special Needs kitty until he gets accustomed to his new three-legged stance, but in return, one lucky person is going to be rewarded with such unconditional forever love.

Please share Tripod's story, so that we can get his surgery and vet bills covered, and this little boy can start a new chapter in his life.
