Dear Friends,

I've decided to take a leap in the dark and do some training with Philippe Gaulier, a famous French master clown, theatre professor and expert on clown, bouffon and grotesque performance. He is coming to Manchester in April to teach "Le Jeu". It's long been an ambition of mine to train with Philippe so I couldn't let the opportunity pass. The problem is, I can't afford to pay for the training so I'm doing a little bit of fundraising to pay for some of it. For me, this is part of an ongoing period of research and development examining the role of the female clown in contemporary live performance. Following the training, I plan to develop a workshop on contemporary clowning which I will hopefully facilitate in schools, youth theatres and theatre groups. I also hope to found my own company and start developing new live performance that draws upon European and British clowning traditions.
I'm very grateful for any donation you can make. Thank you!

Here is some information about the training:

Le Jeu is the foundation of Philippe Gaulier's approach to theatre, it is the 1st module taught at his school, it underpins every aspect of his teaching and is the beginning of the students journey towards creative freedom.

Le jeu will help you to discover the fun of being an actor and the pleasure of being on stage in front of an audience.
A le Jeu workshop is full of game, laughter and teaches the student performance principles that will improve their work and help them find joy in performance.
Through le jeu the actor begins to find their beauty, their aura, their pleasure and their humanity. They meet the fixed point, they learn about complicity, sensitivity, and they begin to understand the importance of lightness in the theatre.
Le jeu is the most important lesson for an actor because as Gaulier says, "For sure the best actors are the ones that have the most pleasure."

"Philippe gaulier is the greatest living teacher of clown and modern theatre. He is also the funniest man I have ever met." - Sacha Baron Cohen.
