Dear family and friends,

I hope this letter finds you well. As some of you may know, over the last twelve years I have built a life based on art and community. These are truly my two passions. A few days ago, I was presented with an opportunity to study under the internationally renowned dub poet and performance artist D’bi Young. She is revolutionary in every sense of the word, and has been running her residency program, YEMOYA, in countries around the world for a number of years. She has formed and built her teachings on the Sorplusi methodology. These are principles that ask us as artists to create holistically, and from a place of self knowledge and integrity. These are principles that help us to tell our own stories. YEMOYA promotes social change through personal change; the institute firmly believes that r/evolution begins from within.

The last few years have been an intense and personal journey of self-actualization that many of you have been a part of in one way or another. It truly began with taking on a mentorship role with vulnerable youth through the John Howard Society in January of 2010. It was an experience that opened the doors to my own healing and forced me to put down my walls. The boys inspired a way of living that was guided simply by passion and love. I would like to take my healing one step further and use this opportunity to explore my own truth, and learn how to deepen and express this truth through art.

The residency takes place in the month of December 2012. I was notified that I was accepted last week, and this has left me with very little time to fundraise. This is where I am asking you for your help, to help me realize this life changing opportunity for me and for our community. The residency at YEMOYA is something I believe will help to solidify a purposeful foundation allowing for a strengthened vision and a streamlined focus in creating art and media that will help shape our world around us. Furthermore, I would like to bring the Sorplusi principles to Saskatoon through presentations and workshops where I can share these learnings with our communities, and hopefully deepen the message of art and storytelling to our social movements.

Thank you for your time, consideration, and support now and over the past few years. I am humbled and sincerely grateful.
