WE'RE MOVING TO SEATTLE!

So we can get learned… can’t you tell we need it?!

We need help moving: $5500 (We are driving a rental truck and our 2001 minivan-praying that it makes it)

Layne's school cost for the first year: @$11,500

Our first year of rent: $24,000 (it's very expensive in Seattle - $2000 a month, plus deposit)

  • Meet Andrew:  He is a licensed mental health therapist who has worked with families with adolescents in crisis, individuals struggling with addictions and many others who needed a person to truly hear them when they needed it the most.  He understands the need for people to connect and to have someone who will listen when it seems no one understands. He knows people are affected by how they think but also by how they treat their bodies and that changing the simplest things can make a world of difference.

  • Andrew’s Dream: Andrew wants to become a Naturopathic Doctor so that he can take the healing further than with only psychotherapy.  In two years, once we are settled in our new home and community, Andrew would like to attend Bastyr University so that he can grow in his ability to help people heal their body, mind and soul.

Meet Alora: She will be starting her freshman year in high school this fall.  She is an artist. Alora is a photographer, writer and makes short films and music videos.  She has found most public schools are difficult for students like her because she doesn’t think or express herself like everyone else. She thinks in pictures and sees the world as a place full of visual images that she wants to share with others.

Alora’s Dream:  One day Alora hopes to be an author and photographer. The big dream is that she will be able to write and direct film as well; maybe slipping in a cameo appearance or two.  The Center School in Seattle is a public arts integrated high school with classes that will allow her to use her creative passions everyday. Film, theater, photography, creative writing, sculpture, animation and drawing are acceptable ways to show your knowledge about all subjects at this school.  It’s hard to think of a better place for her to learn and grow.

  • Meet Layne:  Layne has worked with at risk youth almost her entire career.  Starting and running high school teen parenting programs and classes, coordinating tutoring programs, directing after school clubs, sports and activities for middle schoolers.  She has worked with youth who need more than a teacher, peer or school to help them succeed.  She loves helping people see themselves and how to move beyond the past, deal with the now and then hopefully become who they are meant to be.

  • Layne’s Dream:  With a bachelor’s degree in English, Layne has been limited in what positions she is qualified for (on paper).  So she is planning on attending The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology for her master’s in counseling.  With this degree Layne will be able to expand into positions that will use her abilities to help others and grow herself.  If it all works out, Layne may then go on to earn another master’s of clinical social work at another institution (TBD).
