I'm running an Olympic legacy run for GoodGym that will multiply donations fivefold!

GoodGym is a non-profit organisation that helps people get fit by doing good: they connect groups of individuals with physical tasks that benefit their community and keep them fit by either running in a pack to work on a community project, launching a one off mission to help the vulnerable or by visiting an isolated older person. Runners get the help and support of a qualified trainer to achieve their goals.

The Financial Times: "One of the world's most innovative aging projects"

The Guardian: "Fed up with the gym? Need motivation to exercise?"

Fitness trainers cost money and I am running the National Lottery Newham London Anniversary Run at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on Sunday 20th July to raise funds so that Goodgym can expand and reach more people.

I am running as part of the Spirit of 2012 team on the day. Spirit of 2012 is an independent trust tasked with spending £40M from the sale of the Olympic Village on worthwhile legacy projects.

This means that for every £1 I raise for GoodGym, Spirit of 2012 will give £4 (up to a total of £4000). So take the chance to turn your £10 or £20 into £50 or £100 for a worthwhile cause!

Spirit of 2012 (Spirit) was established by the Big Lottery Fund last year to invest in happiness. It supports projects that empower people to get out, be involved and feel better. It is working to ensure the spirit that radiated from the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics can be felt by everyone, everywhere. It tackles isolation and disadvantage by supporting those providing opportunities in sports, the arts and volunteering. It is supporting Goodgym as our visions work together; we believe that breaking down barriers to participation is key to improving well-being and this can create real, lasting social change. More on GoodGym

In gyms all over the country people all over Britain work away furiously; peddling, pushing, lifting, running and achieving no external benefits. GoodGym aims to harness this energy by making it easier for people to channel this energy towards social good. You can read about runners’ experiences of GoodGym here.
