Lilah is an approximately 1-year-old English Bulldog that was surrendered to our rescue. When we got her, she was full of embedded foxtails, had double cherry eye and mange. We scheduled the surgery to remove the foxtails and correct the cherry eyes, and we also got her the necessary medical treatment for her mange. If this was not enough for the poor girl, approximately 3 weeks ago, she started having “explosive” diarrhea. We tried just about everything to help her with this problem from diet changes to mild medications. Nothing worked. Last week we had to hospitalize Lilah because her diarrhea had become bloody and full of mucus. Doctor’s ran a full blood panel, nothing really out of the ordinary came up. After discussing her case with other doctor’s, our vet stated that she might have Addison’s disease and they wanted to test her for it but advised that the testing was quite expensive. We did not hesitate and approved the test. The results came back negative. Our vet was becoming extremely concerned for the welfare of Lilah due to the explosive bloody and mucusy diarrhea. Finally, after all tests came back negative, the vet decided to try different food sources to see if that might help with the problem. We had advised that we had tried a few variations with no luck. FINALLY, the vet found a food source that made her poop firm and stopped the bloody/mucusy diarrhea. After spending 2 weeks in the vet hospital and many dollars in testing, we can finally say that Lilah is stable. However, all this testing came at a price. Lilah’s medical bills for the last 2 weeks have exceeded $1,000. We are once again, asking if you can help us with our ongoing medical cases.
