Hey everyone! While there are a lot of fundraisers going on, I have a
very personal one and I need your help! At 27 years young, I have
finally decided to take the leap of joining the U.S. Navy. When I was
17, I met with a recruiter to join the National Guard and was too
scared of bootcamp to enlist. Life got in the way for a while but it
is now time to turn over a new leaf. I am firm in my decision that
it's my turn to give back. I realized that when it came to a career, I
wanted to give back in ways other professions just didn't seem to
fulfill me. And believe me, I've tried! The way I personally feel I
can confidently do this is by being a sailor in the U.S. Navy.
Unfortunately for me, I made the decision to have both sides of
my neck tattooed (see that previous "life experience"
thing). This is not condoned by any branch of the military, and
specifically stated per the Navy in Section 2, under the 7th item of
PERSONAL APPEARANCE and tattoos: "...b. Location. No tattoos/body
art/brands on the head, face, neck, or scalp. The neck area for
purposes of this regulation is any portion visible when wearing a crew
neck T-shirt or open collar uniform shirt. In addition, otherwise
permissible tattoos/body art/brands on the torso area of the body
shall not be visible through white uniform clothing..."
This means these neck tattoos must be removed before I can even
begin my enlistment process. Along with that comes training, and a
high ASVAB score. I have started my physical training and started
studying for my ASVAB. I have begun the process of taking the
necessary steps to achieve these goals. I have sold my car to try and
accrue close to $1,000 towards this as well as continuing to apply for
any job I can, from waiting tables to junior marketing executive
positions. My goal is to reach $4,000 by September. If my skin does
well with the laser process, I'll be ready to go to enlist by December
2015.
I hope to make my mother, my teammates, and my
former and future co-workers proud. Most importantly, I want to prove
to myself that I can do this! That I can have a noble career serving
my family, friends, and community in ways I never thought I could, all
the while being trained in something I never thought I'd be able to
do. I want to serve and protect my loved ones. I am very lucky to have
the support of my friends and loved ones as I embark on this huge
change. I know my life is going to change dramatically but it is a
good and needed change. It's my hope, my goal, and my dream.
I can't get there alone though, and that's where I need your
help in aiding me to get where I need to be! There is a company in
Harrisburg, PA that has graciously taken me in and adjusted what they
would have charged me because of the fact that I'm trying to enlist in
the Navy. With time and hard work, I will move up to the highest I can
go as a Non-Comissioned Officer. THANK YOU for your help and support.
I wouldn't be where I am today without you, and I'm looking forward to
making you proud.
It looks like the $25 claim isn't allowing me to receive people's shipping addresses. Please email me after you claim this perk directly so I can send you a card and keychain or you won't get this perk! rebha.simon@gmail.com
