God began writing my story before I was born. But my story as a missionary began for me back in high school. Although I have very specific memories from when I was a little kid of praying the lyrics to “Here I Am Lord” over my life, it wasn’t until I was 15 that I had my eyes opened to the world of missions and I began to more fully understood what those lyrics meant. When I was 14, one of my best friends Anna, went with our church on a mission’s trip to the Dominican Republic. She got to miss a week of school and when she came back she had her hair all braided and she had a great tan… I was so jealous! And it made me want to go so badly! I actually started paying attention in church after that because I was waiting for the announcement for the next trip. So the next year, when I was 15 and a sophomore, I went! Even though my intentions for going on this first trip were clearly completely impure, God still used that trip to speak strongly to my heart. It was after that trip that I knew without a shadow of a doubt that I had just experienced my calling and stepped into my purpose. I knew at that point that I would be spending my life as a missionary, bringing God’s love throughout the world. It wasn’t just the travel bug, or an enjoyable vacation worth repeating, but it was my God-given purpose. I always said that I couldn’t not go back to the DR, so for the 6 years following that first trip I went back, which only furthered my assurance of my calling. I loved being on the mission field. I loved being among such human need because it’s where I feel closest to the heart of God. I can remember many conversations I had with my friend Vanessa, whose from the DR, about how we both wanted to be missionaries in Africa one day because there was so much human need there and so many people that we wanted to serve. When I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit came to live in me. So I now carry the power of the Holy Spirit so that I can live as Christ lived and love as He loved. I carry the power of the Holy Spirit so that I can be a witness and so that I can testify about Jesus to the ends of the earth. God didn’t save me so that I could then live safely and comfortably in a Christian bubble. God saved me out of His abundant love and grace so that I can proclaim the gospel and share the good news of Christ. So that’s what I intend to do
