Meet Ava, a 2 year old cat that was rescued by us, The Cat's Meow (a 501c nonprofit organization), from a high kill shelter, just days before going into labor. Last Sunday, when we picked Ava up from the shelter, she was so affectionate and truly grateful for the pass out of jail. From the looks of her belly, we knew it was only a matter of days before she would go into labor.

Thankfully, we were abe to find a foster to set up a cozy bathroom for Ava to give birth. By Tuesday it was evident that Ava was starting her contractions and coming down with a nasty upper respiratory infection, also. For the next two days Ava appeared to be getting more and more lethargic and her URI was not helping the situation. On Friday evening, Ava’s foster decided it was time to take her to the emergency room as the babies had yet to arrive and she was going to need to be treated for her infection. Around 11pm, we received a call from the veterinarian on duty stating that Ava’s contractions were very close, yet she didn’t have the strength to push the babies out. At that point, we had to make the difficult decision to do a c-section and save the babies or do a spay in hopes of saving Ava and possibly Ava’s babies, also. We decided to make Ava the priority since we know she is alive and has a strong will to live. We sat in the waiting room for what seemed like days.

After two hours, the doctor came out to inform us that Ava was alive but the babies were stillborn, all five of them. Ava’s vitals were not stable at this point and the doctor recommended she spend the next two days being monitored. We called today to get an estimate of the bill and as of tonight the bill was over $2400.00.  All donations will be put toward Ava's extensive veterinary treatment. No donation is too small as every bit adds up! Donations are tax deductible since The Cat's Meow is a registered 501c nonprofit organization. Thank you in advance for helping sweet Ava.
