I am writing on behalf of World Challenge, an organisation which develops sustainable projects that benefit local communities in Africa and around the world. Its planning managers liaise with local contacts and aim to find placements which meet the needs of the community, and where a team of volunteers would be most beneficial.

Mozambique is one of Southern Africa’s least explored destinations and World Challenge has determined that our help would make the most difference there. I am preparing to take part in a 4-week long expedition to Mozambique in order to take part in the construction and renovation at a number of extremely poor primary and secondary schools in a rural community in Manica province. Many schools in Mozambique lack basic facilities and students are unable to take exams and continue their education because of this. This is a valuable opportunity for my team of 14 to undertake sustainable project work. We seek to help give the children in need a healthy working environment therefore helping to change their circumstances. We went to Uganda last year to do similar work, and we hope that we can havev the same impact in Mozambique as well.

This is not a school trip and it is certainly not a holiday. The expedition involves a challenging 14 day trek and we hope to significantly benefit the local community while we are there. We will also be helping to create recreational grounds/playgrounds and helping with teaching and organising sports games. In this way, my team and I will have the wonderful opportunity to mix with the extremely friendly local people and learn a lot about their culture as well. It will be a truly eye opening experience to participate in a way of life far removed from our own and we hope our work will continue to benefit the communities we work with long after we have left.

Over the next few months, we have the task of raising $5,000 each to cover our costs. We have organised various events at school and running a job service during evenings and weekend. I thought you may consider sponsoring me, donating to a good cause. You can be part of our team’s work with a donation of any amount to directly help a community in Manica, knowing that your money is going towards a sustainable project instead of to a charity where money is often lost in the organisation.

I would like to thank you for considering this opportunity to partner with my team for raising funds. I would be grateful for the opportunity to discuss this further. If you have any queries, please feel free to contact me at s.rueber7@latymer-upper.org.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,
Sabrina Rueber
