The sounds of the dry fall leaves rustling in the trees, the laughter of children heard slightly over the distant sound of sleigh bells, the creak of fresh fallen snow under foot, and the Christmas song that takes you back to your Grandparents living room, all bring our hearts home for Christmas. But a local boy will not be hearing these sounds this Christmas because of a rare disease that he has been diagnosed with. Zachary (11) has Superficial Siderosis, he is the only child case that has ever been documented. One of the tragic side effects of this disease is hearing loss. Zacharys' hearing is swiftly diminishing, and he will eventually be completely deaf. His family, as you can imagine, would like for Zachary to hear the wonderful sounds of Christmas, while he still can. The family can not afford the sudden expense of hearing aids and has organized a fundraiser in addition to this online fundraiser, that they are calling "Cakes for Christmas". If you would like to help out in person, the event will take place on Thursday December 12th from 5-8pm at the Smith Trahern Mansion in Clarksville.
