For those that remember Smokey and to those who don't...he is a sweet kitty that we rescued last January after a member of Sumter Pets put out a call for help. The poor guy had been hit by a car. After examination from our vet, he felt Smokey had been hit a week prior. So he wandered around looking for help all that time with serious head trauma. The trauma caused him to be permanently blind. He couldn’t see, smell or eat. His jaw was broken, mouth palette was fractured, several teeth were broken, he had major lacerations to his head and his nasal cavity had been restructured because of the impact from the accident. He had to be syringe fed for months because he couldn't eat on his own. Later we learned that he was FIV + so has to be isolated from other kitties. Our vet determined Smokey is closer to 9 yrs old and we just discovered he has an enlarged heart. :( But through all he went through and has gone through he has remained a super sweet baby. Even in his pain he purred and purred.
Some may wonder, why put all this into a “stray”. Because we believe their lives matter! This baby has a strong spirit! He is a fighter who wanted to live! And for those who have met him know just how precious and valuable he is! He is sweet and loving! Despite being blind, he LOVES playing chase with his ball.
We want to make him more comfortable. The infections in his nose are the direct cause of the hole in his palette. Food gets threw it. Susan Bell has been an angel! She was his nurse nightingale and has fostered Smokey for us for the past year + due to there wasn’t space in our home. My sweet husband this past month had been working at building a place for Smokey in our home. And recently, Smokey moved in. :)
Sumter TNR Kitten and Rescue is a 501c3 non profit cat rescue, so all donations are tax deductable. Won’t you please consider making a donation for Smokey?
