Jacquie New hasn't added a story.
Hans was taken in last April 2012 when the municipality asked if I could re-home the last 5 dogs they had in the isolator as it was being closed, as it was not licensed.
He had been there according to their records for over 5 years chained on a 2-metre length to a wooden kennel with a leaking roof. Also the cement where his kennel was flooded when it rained due to the cement having worn away, turning it into a puddle. He literally had to lie in water constantly. Hans is deaf but loves his life in comfort and acts as grandpa to all the rescued puppies. He has a strict regime in his head as to what time he a. gets up in the morning (depending on the weather) b. when he wants to be fed c. where he sleeps and he will not deviate from this in any way. Because of his horrific former life, his profound deafness and his strict regime, Hans will always live out the rest of his life as a ‘Special Needs Angel’ resident.
Minnie was an emergency call out in January 2011 the day before Candy’s birthday. We were alerted to the fact there was a little dog with a broken back dragging herself around the streets of a nearby town. ‘’On arrival as I approached her in the car I thought she was a cat she was so tiny. I drew up beside her and opened my door and this little face looked up at me and smiled! Really. After giving her a quick once over it was apparent that yes she had a broken back but that it was an old injury so I picked her up, sat her in my lap and home she came. Once home a bath was a must as she was filthy but what I did not realize until I was cutting the knotted hair behind her ears (it was so tight she was having trouble moving her head) that she had the worst infestation of fleas imaginable. Hence the bald patch on top of her head! Poor little soul it must have driven her mad as she does not have the use of her back legs to scratch’’ Minnie now has a set of wheels from the USA (Eddies Wheels), comes riding with me and all the dogs in her back pack, and travels Europe with me on my return to the UK. Her injury also caused her not to be able to pass urine on her own so I also have to empty her bladder 4 times a day. She also wears special pants in bed at night. Minnie will always be a ‘Special Needs Forever Angel’ resident and has adjusted to life well considering her past and her disability.
Nana was an horrific abuse case and ended up in foster for nearly a year before going to Candy.
Hugely traumatized from her abuse she was unapproachable initially due to immense fear, but with time and patience she has learned to trust Candy.
It has taken over a year to be able to touch, stoke or cuddle Nana but Candy can now do all of these and she leads an incredibly happy life, long walks in the mountains, the company of all the other dogs, cuddles, food and her favorite place by the fire.
Because of her history and her trauma with strangers Nana will always remain a ‘Special Needs Forever Angel’
If you can help sponsor our Special Needs Resident Angels it would be a great help to us. Thank you
