Just 3 weeks after his first chid was born, Paul was admitted in the hospital on Feb. 22, 2013. He was diagnosed with immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), an autoimmune disease in which the body mistakes platelets for foreign bodies and destroys them. ITP is a rare condition, affecting around five people per 100,000. It causes bleeding, severe bruising and small red spots on the skin, known as purpura. In rare cases it can lead to an intracranial hemorrhage, a potentially fatal bleed into the brain. Paul has been through a lot in his now 30 days of hospitalization. Strong steroids, numerous Platelet infusions, IVIG Infusions, a Spleenectomy (removal of his spleen), Chemo treatments and other very strong drugs are just some of the treatments he has endured. However, none of these treatments have worked to raise his platelet levels.
Last Monday, Paul was transferred to the Kaiser Sunset Hospital in Los Angeles. Now he is away from his family and new son. We, his family are trying to be with him as much as possible, but there are travel expenses to think about as well as all the medical and other expenses that are piling up at home while he's not able to work and disability hasn't came through. This is incredibly hard for us to ask for help, We would never ask unless we were desperate and it has come to that as our savings are dwindling. Please help us in this very difficult time of need.
Any donation will help, great or small. We thank you all for all the love, prayers and support you have given already. We love you.
