Every year since 1961, Theatre West Virginia brings southern West Virginia's cultural heritage to life under the stars at Cliffside Amphitheatre - Grandview - part of the New River Gorge National River. Through our historical dramas ("Honey in the Rock," "Hatfields & McCoys," and "Rocket Boys: The Musical"), we fuse art and history for the community to understand a past that becomes ignored or misinformed. "Honey in the Rock" vocalizes West Virginia's critical position in the Civil War and how the state was born during a nation torn. "Hatfields & McCoys" articulates a piece of Appalachian lore and notoriety about the famous feud fueled by yellow journalism that made the mountains bleed red. "Rocket Boys: The Musical," based on the novel of the same name that inspired the film 'October Sky' tells the coming of age tale of a young West Virginia boy looking to leave his coal mining roots and reach for the stars. These productions support the area's legacy through artistic excellence and preserve West Virginia's cultural past. All money raised in this campaign will go towards production costs of these three productions.
