Bilingual Immigration Evaluations & Counseling
Shores For All was founded in response to the challenges faced by migrants seeking safety and permanency in the United States, including financial and linguistic barriers to accessing services such as evaluations that can support their immigration cases or general mental health counseling.
Studies show that a psychological evaluation raises one’s chances of winning their asylum case from approximately 42% to 82-89%. However, the cost is often prohibitive for the migrants who may most benefit from such services. Furthermore, most migrants who participate in psychological evaluations for their immigration cases receive clinical recommendations to engage in ongoing mental health services to cope with trauma-related symptoms and adjust to life in a new country. However, many do not qualify for health insurance or cannot afford therapy services. We are raising funds so that migrants can receive pro-bono or low-cost evaluations to support their immigration cases and be matched with clinicians in our network for a certain number of therapy sessions at no cost.
Shores for All is up and running as a fiscally sponsored project of Humanitarian Social Innovations, a 501(c)(3) in Bethlehem, PA. The founder of Shores for All has been practicing as a bilingual psychotherapist since 2016. She has been working directly with immigrants and refugees since 2019 through an Office of Refugee Resettlement shelter program, by conducting outpatient evaluation and counseling services, and through the Physicians for Human Rights Volunteer Network. Our team includes an advocacy specialist, a multimedia content creator, a TEFL instructor, and an expanding network of mental health clinicians.
We are seeking funding to further develop and sustain this work. Our evaluation services have helped victims of human trafficking, political/religious/gender/sexuality-based persecution, and severe domestic violence to convey their stories to the courts and win life-saving legal protections. We have also helped families stay together by demonstrating the hardship that would be caused by the removal of a spouse or parent of a U.S. citizen. Any donations would directly help migrants in the United States receive the services necessary to access safety, security, and dignity during these uncertain times.
