The increase in awareness of Pawtcake Refuge since hurricane Dorian has been a turning point for us. Our storm preparation post going viral was unforeseen, and turned a horrible event into a blessing in disguise for the homeless dogs suffering on this island. Because of the exposure reaching literally around the world, our mission to help the voiceless here has gained a new level of respect and support. That makes us determined to do as much as we can for the thousands of dogs still just existing on the streets - we want to show them what it’s like to LIVE. We want them to experience the love and care they’ve never even imagined was possible. YOU can help us to accomplish this goal.

Your donations are used to bring dogs into the refuge from all over the island. Many are in terrible condition, and have never had a safe place to be; never known a kind human touch. They come riddled with potentially deadly diseases like heartworm, ehrlichiosis, anaplasmosis, and other parasitic infections. They often have skin conditions, like mange and ringworm, that give them significant hair loss and open sores. Some have broken bones and injuries from cars, or abuse. Even the most despised, mange afflicted strays are welcomed here at Pawtcake Refuge. We don’t see the repugnant eyesore being shunned in disgust; we see the beautiful soul inside awaiting freedom from the damages of neglect. Their loneliness and despair evaporate, once they learn that they are worthy of love. The darkness of their past is slowly replaced by the hopeful spirit of a dog that knows how it feels to be cherished. They come broken and defeated, and through care and kindness, they are reborn. Your support helps us to make miracles happen...

Anything you can give will go to expenses of operating the refuge, and caring for our homeless. Our rented property is going to be lost to us when the lease expires in September 2020, so we have been searching for a new place to relocate to. Ideally, we will find a large rural land with acreage, a modest home, and outbuildings (or room to build plenty of shelter from the weather). This won’t be easy, as experience dictates that we need a location distanced from neighboring homes. Imagine your barking dog often upsetting the folks next door, then multiply that by 80 or more... Funds from our significant campaign success in September have been earmarked towards the relocation property. The cost of real estate here is not cheap, so it’s going to be a difficult endeavor. We at Pawtcake Refuge appreciate your kindness more than you will ever know - without it, we could not continue to change the lives of these deserving homeless.
