Funds raised through this campaign will pay for a Memorial dedicated to our friend and teammate, Ben Cullen, who passed away in 2014. Additional funds raised beyond the cost of a memorial for Ben will be given directly to the Platteville Hillmen Soccer teams so as to help pay for general costs of operating, such as equiptment, travel expenses, or tournament fees, in hopes of benefitting the programs and enhancing the game of soccer in the community of Platteville.
We learn many things while in High School. There are many triumphs and tribulations in all aspects of life at that age, especially within interscholastic athletics. Many successes on the field or on the court that may be enjoyed can sometimes be overshadowed by defeats and those defeats may be looked at as something we think we'd want to forget. Young men and women must realize that those days should not be taken for granted, because despite the joy or sadness individuals or teams may experience when that shot goes in or that last season is over, nothing we learn in school or experience on the field can prepare us for the misery of losing a friend that was there to share those experiences. We are hoping this Memorial for Ben will help current and future Hillmen Soccer players and other young athletes realize that the present is a time to cherish and appreciate.
Ben was a graduate of the Platteville High School Class of 2005. He was an incredibly unselfish, excellent person and teammate who played with the 2004 Hillmen Soccer team. He was a strong, versatile and reliable part of an exceptional defense that season, helping the team reach Sectionals after becoming Regional Champions. He was a member of the Track and Field team at PHS and was also a member of the Platteville Power Soccer Club.
On Saturday August 8th, former members of the Hillmen Soccer team will be playing an alumni game dedicated to the memory of Ben. We encourage anyone donating to come out and enjoy the beautiful game! The first full game will be at 4:30 PM at the Varsity field at PHS at Water St. and Madison St. in Platteville. If there are enough alumni attending, there will be two games and the second game will be at 6. There isn't any cost of attendance and the public is welcome to come out and watch!
At this moment we have not recieved permission to put the memorial up, but we're confident that we will soon! Hopefully we can get it in before the game(s), but even if we can't by then, the games will still be taking place on the 8th and we'll continue to raise money for the memorial to be erected in the near future.
Feel free to "like", "comment", or "share" and we definitely hope to see you all out there on Saturday, August 8th at 4:30!
The event is on Facebook as well - click on the link and let us know you're going to attend! It's open to anyone! https://www.facebook.com/events/1653085608255834/
Ben has had a lasting impact on the lives of many people. In an effort to help the Hillmen Soccer programs, we are asking for donations in his memory so that he may continue to positively influence even more people's lives.
Thank you,
- Jesse Brown, Scott Upton, Coach Brandon Pink, PHS Class of 2005, and the 2004 Hillmen Varsity Soccer Team.
