Chichita is an approx 1.5 year old APBT mix that was brought into Pima Animal Care in April. She was discovered to have Demodex, a non contagious type of mange, and was put in the shelter's sick bay to receive treatment. Sick bay is a part of the shelter that is seperated from the rest and houses all the shelter's sick dogs. It is dark, the kennels are small and there is very limited people contact and no dog contact. Chichita was in sick bay for approx 6 months while under going treatment.
After under going treatment for this time period, she was deemed healthy enough to start receiving walks around the park by the volunteers.. She had gone half a year with no contact to other dogs and hearing nothing but contant barking and having only the inside of her tiny kennel for entertainment. For a dog only a year and a half, this means she spent 1/3 of her life in that kennel. With all this against her, she was taken out with only the best intentions for her and due to her living situation for her stay at PACC, she got too close to another dog and got in an altercation. This altercation signed her death warrant and she was immediately placed on a hold for rescue efforts.. IF no one came forward for her, she was to be euthanized.
After a long and difficult few days for those of us trying to find her savior, she was special needs adopted the day after her deadline. This happy ending was not so happy, however.
A few weeks after her departure from PACC, she returned, picked up on the streets as a stray. PACC and its volunteers struggled to contact her adopter and get them to come down and redeem her. Help was offered and fees were waived, but they never came. So she was placed on another hold for rescue efforts and set to be euthanized if no one came forward. The fight was back on and this time, we felt even more hopeless than before! On the last day of her hold, a wonderful pair of sisters went down to PACC to meet Chichita and decided to foster her with our organization.
Although Chichita is safe from euthanasia, she needs a lot of help to discover herself and build her confidence with other dogs. She will need some pretty extensive training if there is ever hope of her finding her forever family. The total cost for her training (with a very generous discount) is $1200 for a 45 day board and train. We strongly trust our trainer's abilities and want to be able to provide only the best for Chichita. Please help if you can!
