CorgiPals, Inc. hasn't added a story.
June 22, 2014
Pals, it's time to introduce a new Helping Paws client. I'll warn you now, this story does not have a happy ending. Here is Gracie's story in the words of Corgi Mom Lisa on June 10:
"I am asking for help because I don't know where else to
turn. Our 3 year old precious Corgi Gracie is very, very ill and
we're afraid we're going to lose her. She is in a local hospital
with an infected kidney and the doctors say if her condition doesn't
improve by tomorrow then surgery to remove the kidney may be
required to save her life. We're so worried because we don't know
how we would ever pay for this and we're sick at the thought of
losing her.
She's still so young and is every bit our baby. My children
love her more than anything and our hearts are breaking. We saved
for months and months to have this vacation but that means nothing
now. Is there anything at all you can do?"
On June 11 we received the following update:
"We left the hospital a couple of hours ago. We're just worried sick still because the doctors haven't really been able to establish a firm diagnosis with Gracie. They did say she was a little less lethargic today compared to the last two days and she did seem very happy to see us. However, she still refuses to eat. Right now the plan is to leave her in the hospital another night with the hope that we will see improvement by tomorrow. At that point, we can take her to our own vet daily for antibiotics or any other treatment she needs and care for her on our own at night."
On June 13 I got word that the vet was planning to remove Gracie's kidney, and on June 16 I got the following promising update:
"I can't even start to tell you how grateful we are. Gracie is home! Just brought her home a little while ago. We've completely maxed out everything we have and our bank accounts are completely drained, but we're still thrilled she's home and we didn't lose her. CorgiPals' assistance is SO unbelievably needed right now, you have no idea. Thank you, thank you, thank you!"
On June 17, Gracie took a turn for the worse...
"I'm afraid my news this morning doesn't look as good as yesterday's. Last night during the night Gracie began to act very strangely and then every time we would take her outside she had a very bloody loose stool. She refuses to eat and is drooling excessively. The doctor at the animal hospital had me take her in this morning and we're waiting word from him as to what the problem might be. I'm scared to death... I really don't know what to think at this point. If she requires further treatment and expensive testing I really don't know how we'll be able to pull that off. We've draining everything we have... I just don't know what to do...."
On June 19, I got the email I feared the most. Sadly, after a very brave fight, Gracie lost her battle:
"I just wanted you to know that we lost Gracie this morning. We're heartbroken... and miss her so much already. We're just sick that we lost her even after spending so much to try and save her. She was only 3 years old...."
Lisa and her family are sick with grief. They lost their baby girl so unexpectedly, and the cost far exceeds what CorgiPals can help with. They did everything they could for sweet Gracie, and now they need help with the bill. Please spread the word for Gracie and her family, and help if you can.
