Lacie Krantz hasn't added a story.
Lacie was born with Vesicoureteral Reflux (VUR), a disease where urine flows backwards (refluxes) into one or both ureters and, in some cases, to one or both kidneys. By the time she was diagnosed at age 10, she had stage 5 bilateral VUR and both of her kidneys were damaged from 10 years of urine flowing back into them. At that young age, She underwent a full reconstructive bladder procedure. Her urologist crossed her ureters so that each ureter was wrapped around the back of her bladder and connected to the opposite kidney. The surgery did not seem to help much, though; and throughout her teenage years and early twenties, she still had multiple urinary tract infections and was living in a world of pain. No matter how many doctors she saw, no one could ever figure out why she kept getting the infections.
In 2011, her urologist figured out that the surgery she had as a kid actually may have been causing some of her problems. Because her ureters were wrapped around the back of her bladder they were getting kinked when the bladder filled. So, in June of 2011, her urologist went in and shortened the ureters so that they would no longer get pinched closed when her bladder filled. Unfortunately, this did not stop the chronic pain and persistent infections. Over the next 2 years, she had a multitude of invasive and exploratory procedures including 7 different surgeries which included removing a stitch that had been left in her bladder for 23 years, a deflux implant into the ureters to stop the recurrent refluxing, kidney stone removal, a procedure to dilate her urethra so urine could flow out easier and countless other pokes and prods.
After all these surgeries and still no relief from infections, she was sent to another doctor. Over the last 15 months, her newest Urologist has connected two InterStims to her spine that shock her constantly in order to get the bladder to dispel urine correctly.
Including these procedures, she has had 11 surgeries in just under three years. She has been hospitalized multiple times, been in the ER numerous times, had 3 PICC lines for IV antibiotic treatment and has lived on oral antibiotics. Unfortunately, enduring all of this has not solved any of her problems She still has non stop infections and extreme pain.
Lacie is a 35 year-old wife and mother of two beautiful young ladies, Grace (11) and Abbie (9). Instead of doing the things other young moms are doing and running around with her girls, She is living with pain so persistent and severe that she is often confined to her bed. She now has multiple doctors working on her problems - Urologist, Nephrologist, Immunologist and Infection Disease. They have informed her if she doesn’t get the infections under control she will lose both of her kidneys. She has an apt with a new urologist at the University of Florida on Feb 27th to get his opinion on what to do in order rid of these constant infections.
Lacie is ready to beat this and we want to help her with all of her medical bills. Because of all of these doctor appointments, surgeries, medication and hospital stays Lacie has racked up hundreds of dollars’ worth of bills and is adding to them daily. She will now be traveling from Tampa to Gainesville on a regular basis to seek better medical attention and with each trip she will be paying even more money for gas and lodging.
Please help us reach our goal of $5000 to help ease the financial pain that this family is enduring and help get Lacie the answers she needs to finally become the mom and wife we all know she can be.
