One day in my Ballet class, I was getting ready to start warming up my body. As usual, I couldn't help but ponder my focus away into the bulletin board. I saw the different places offering summer intensives such as Joffrey Ballet and Alvin Ailey - very intimidating. Then out of nowhere, I saw this hidden poster in the corner about a summer dance intensive in Florence, Italy. At first, I brushed it off and immediately thought that it was impossible, then I pondered for a bit and it suddenly hit me. "Why not dance in Italy this summer?" Ever since then, it has never left my mind. Now, I am here telling you this same story. What a moment!

My "Mission: Florence 2014" Campaign was created to help fund my dream trip to Florence, Italy for the Alambrado Danza Summer Workshop. What We Need & What You Get

Break it down for folks in more detail:

•The $4,500 Needed for "Mission: Florence 2014" will go to:

Airfare = prices go as cheap as $1,756 (as of January 2; is expected to go up as high as $2,000 by the time the fundraiser ends)

The Intensive itself = $2,559 ( including the $500 partial scholarship + accommodation: 22 nights in a 4 star shared apartments close to the studio and the historical center of the town, excursion to Perugia & Tuscany including travel fees + lunch)

The leftover funds will go direct to food & other required necessities.

Some of the wonderful perks that are included in this campaign will be a homemade & heartfelt thank you card (I promise you, I get very into my arts & crafts), a special photography of one of MG&E’s dance repertory, a special video created just for you and a special photo shoot session with one of our talented & lovely photographer. If you guys have any other cool & nifty ideas, please let me know.

Contributing funds will not only allow me to grow as a dancer but as a person as well. For a very long time, I have felt the need to completely grow out of my isolated & introverted shell. In Summer 2008, I came out of the closet to all my loving family and friends- and dance has really helped me cope with the more negative responses. Going to Florence, I'll be able to continue my journey on improving my technique and learning to express myself even more so freely. I will truly be on my own and nothing will stop me from dancing and being alive.

Risks and Challenges

“You’re not going to have a good future! You’re never going to go anywhere in life!” Sounds hurtful right? It really is… Being a gay male in our society can be very challenging. I was required to have assertiveness, diligence and a good heart to survive in this dog-eat-dog society. Everyone surrounding me, from strangers, to friends, to even my own family at some point doubted my capabilities of doing great things in life. I was driven to prove everyone wrong.

My whole life, I’ve had to work smart & diligently to achieve the life I have today– one that is filled with happiness, gratitude and so much love. This is where dance comes into the bigger picture. It has helped me overcome the daily struggles of being treated as a social outcast and most of all, come to a full circle. With that being said, this newly found energy has helped me survive all of the endless endeavors and opportunities that was presented in 2013. From competing for the first time in The San Diego Dance Theatre's Young Choreographer's Showcase and Prize to creating a piece regarding the Super Typhoon Yolanda to help experience catharsis within myself. This year has given me so much trials and tribulations with dance that I realized that this is how I can give back to the world – through sharing my experiences and love for life through the form of movement.

Your contributions, what ever form it may be – donations, helping spread the word or keeping me in your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated. Honestly, at this point I cannot do this mission without your help. If you decide to contribute, I want to say thank you very much from the bottom of my heart and assure you that you are making the right decision in investing in my dream – to live the life that is ours to claim and to soar the endless possibilities it contains.
