Annie Mond hasn't added a story.
Annie has been quite overwhelmed with her dysfunctional fencing situation. Cisco just laughs at the attempts being made by Annie to repair the fence with baling twine. He is confined to "jail" right now, until the fencing situation can be resolved. He is becoming depressed, hanging his head in the corner of his pen, looking very sad. Annie will take him out to walk around the larger enclosure on a lead rope and try to jog with him, as she has no roundpen, but that's just not adequate.
Annie has done some emergency repairs with help from a neighbor who has driven some t-posts between the existing ones that are too far apart, then lashed the fencing to the t-posts with several lengths of baling twine as a temporary solution. No matter how much effort put into strengthening the fence, Cisco just walks right on and then over the fence and Annie is hurting badly because of the physical work. All donations will be used solely on fencing materials and labor. There are many other repairs and outbuildings that need attention, but this fund is for the sole purpose of repairing this fence where it's salvagable, or to erect new fencing where required, as it has become an emergency situation now.
We need to construct a steel pipe, or other heavy duty fence, that is suitable for mustangs, as both her Daisy and Cisco are mustangs and their behavior corresponds to that. Cisco especially has an abundance of energy, who behaves more like a bulldozer or an army tank. Mustangs do not mix well with electric fences. Based on the research we've done, and first hand accounts of mustangs and electric fences, we've come to the conclusion that it is not an option. We need a fence that can withstand Cisco and Daisy.
The long term goal, once we get the fence situation under control, is to foster for local rescues. Maybe even take in more mustangs if the circumstances are right.
Picured here with Annie is Dolly, her 25 year old ex-broodmare with a long-term lameness problem, rescued from a killbuyer auction in Washington in Feb. 2011. Photos of Daisy and Cisco coming soon!
