A Holiday Appeal to Our Friends and Family

I am a single mother of 4 children who live at home and we are without transportation after a series of mechanical breakdowns. The only thing slowing us down in fulfilling our dreams is a busted head gasket.

A Holiday Appeal to Our Friends and Family

I am a single mother of 4 children who live at home.  After much needed family strengthening time, I now serve as an advocate for people with disabilities.

In my family, the dilemma we face is that our car broke down, leaving us without reliable transportation to get to and from school and work.  Because my children’s schools don’t provide transportation and the city’s public transportation routes stop miles short of where we live—our home being 10 miles outside of town—we all hitchhike to where we need to be, nearly every day of the week.  And now with the weather turning to subzero temperatures, it’s challenging to stay warm, even with friends and family helping us.

Our goal is to raise $1000 to get our car fixed and spiffy with a new head gasket so that we can continue our normal routines of being a family of change agents without the stress and anxiety that not having reliable transportation is causing us.  Please help us reach our goal by making a contribution to our grassroots fundraising effort!  Whether it’s $5, $15, or $50, every dollar will be spent ensuring that our basic need for reliable transportation is met.  We appreciate your support, whether monetary or otherwise. :)

About Me & My Family:
I love my job – I love being of service to people in need.  My life experiences have placed me in positions to be an advocate for issues affecting people of color and the working poor.

The traits that have enabled me to serve my community have been nurtured in my children, enabling them to be humble, caring little people of the world.  My eldest is taking college courses while finishing high school.  She is an ally to the immigrant community and volunteers her time to equality and anti-bias education in the community.  I also have a carefree, fun-loving high school student attending a charter school, who at the age of 10, decided to become a vegetarian and has stuck to it for 6 years and counting.  Like her older sister, she’s a strong ally for anti-bias education.  My middle school kiddo, being a quietly observing child, is known in her school to stand up against bullying and is keenly aware of privilege and power and how they play out in social settings.  My youngest is an adorable soccer player who is fueling his passion for sports, already thinking about honing his athletic skill for college scholarships.  He is 7 years old.
