It's the news nobody was expecting. On Saturday Nov 23rd, the world lost another amazing life force when devoted dad, husband and absolute rad dude Jiggy Johnson passed away after a sudden heart attack. A much loved member of the NZ and Gold Coast surf, skate, and music communities, Jig was an accomplished artist, intuitive musician, devout skater and surfer, master craftsman and owner of one of the most contagious smiles around.
A longtime private contractor at surfboard factories, Jiggy had
no work cover and didn't have private insurance, leaving his wife and
two young sons without much needed financial assistance to cover
funeral expenses and mortgage repayments.
At just 46, Jiggy left the world well before his time. As a
member of the community known for his big heart and generous spirit,
it's time to give back and ensure the ones Jiggy loved more than life
itself are looked after.
So amped and full of life, Jiggy had a lot going on in his world that he was stoked about. Not many people find their soulmate, but Jiggy had found his -- beautiful wife Heather -- and the two were the epitome of a loving couple blessed with two beautiful boys. Jiggy loved nothing more than taking the family surfing, skating, or just walking by the beach around their hometown of Tugun. His band, the The Core Vets, had recently made it to the final of the local battle of the bands, and he was excited about playing new songs to the world. His youngest son Che was turning 8, and he was proud as punch of the fine young men both his sons were becoming.
Always on call to help friends in need, in recent years Jiggy
had played several gigs to benefit friends and his community,
including a fundraiser that raised $17,000 for fellow surfcraft worker
and friend Ian Smith after a stroke had left him wheelchair bound.
Jiggy had also most recently performed at a private funeral service
for his close friend, surfer/shaper Allan Byrne.
Jiggy was an exceptional person, and it’s time to dig deep in
these exceptional circumstances -- c’mon, you know he’d be have your
back if it was you!
Aside from the minor processing fees
Fundraizr charges, all funds will go directly to Jiggy’s family at
this most challenging of times.
Message to family friends from Jiggy's wife, Heather:
Dear many and much loved friends. My beloved husband and loved
father of our 2 children, Jiggy Johnson has passed from a massive and
very quick heart attack yesterday afternoon.
My heart is with you and
I know is with us as you delve into shock and disbelief. I am sorry I
have not been able to contact you all personally but I do not have the
strength.
News will come as to arrangements.
Much love Heather Jo.
