I am a 44 year old father of two girls who needs to move up north so I can attend Ivy Tech Community College. I am recently separated through no choice of my own. I know I can not support them on my current salary, so I decided to go and get a college degree. I talked with my mom and she offered to let my children and I stay with here while I go to college ful time.

I was working, but I explained to my boss what was going on. He asked me to turn in a resignation stating when I planned on leaving, which was around November 8th, this way I could save for the next month and rent a Penske truck (Penske allows me a less expensive truck than U-Haul or budget and still tow my car). October 11th - I took lunch early to go pay my rent, that was already a week late, I told the other employees where I was going. When I got back, my boss asked where I went. I told him... he fired me.

I am so worried for my children. If it was just me, no problem. But I don't know what is going to happen with my children. I was so hopeful about moving up north and actually getting a college degree. But, now...

I have tried getting another job. Even went to temp agencies, day labor, heck, even McDonalds. But when asked about what I am looking for, I have to be honest and tell them about moving my children up north. Big mistake!

I have asked a few friends that I know won't run and gossip to everyone, but they can't afford to. It is embarrassing for me to have to ask strangers for help. And my oldest daughter is already getting flak from school. I am near the end of my rope. I am trying to hang on for my children, but rent is due in the beginning of November, when I planned on leaving. If I can't make it up north so I can attend college, I don't know how I can support my two children. I dearly want to give them a better future than what I have had. A future without worrying about how we are going to pay rent or the power. A future without eating cup-o-soups everyday.

I pray for a miracle. I am hoping for the best.

Thank you,

J
