Forget Me Not Animal Shelter hasn't added a story.
Hamilton, our funny-looking long-bodied short-legged goofball, arrived at Forget Me Not as a stray, and spent over 4 months in "jail" waiting for the right family to find him. Toward the end, he was growing more and more depressed and kennel-stressed, and we worried that he was not going to make it to a happy ending.
Just when he seemed on the verge of giving up, Hamilton found his dream home with Brittney, Jameson, and their dog Peanut (who looks just like Hamilton, but in the "brown model"). He met his new family on 7/27, was excited and happy to see his "twin," and set off for that happy ending.
Unfortunately, as is often the case with adult dog adoptions, some difficulties started creeping in once everyone was home and starting to get to know each other. Hamilton and Peanut started having squabbles, and both dogs began exhibiting some potentially dangerous chewing behaviors when stressed or separated.
Brittney and Jameson have been working hard and making great progress, hoping to avoid having to return Hammy (who they do adore)... but they need one final tool to keep both dogs safe, which is a second crate so Hammy can have his own den. (He likes his "quiet time"). Having just purchased a home AND adopted a second dog, the family can't afford a crate right now, and we view the situation as urgent for Hamilton.
Forget Me Not doesn't usually provide the tools adopters need, but in Hammy's case, we believe giving him a safe crate just like his "brother" has could mean the difference between a happy ending and sentencing Hammy to another "jail" sentence; we don't want to see this vibrant boy's spirit broken by a return to the shelter, so are giving his family one of our shelter crates.
This means we will need to replace that crate so we will have enough for future transports and on-site rescues. We are collecting donations to help with Hammy's crate costs, because we know there are so many of you cheering Hammy on in his new home and hoping he can overcome the challenges and live the happy life he deserves.
Hamilton and Peanut have many times, like the one in the photo, that they are the best of friends and happily share their space. With the addition of this crate, they will both also have their own private spaces where they can get away from it all and can be safe when their people are not home to supervise. Forget Me Not *will* provide this crate to Hamilton, whether we reach our goal or not, but we would love to sign the "Dear Hammy" gift card with your names, too.
Help us go that extra mile to keep Hammy in the home he already loves.
