Six years ago mine and my brother's lives were changed for the better when my uncle, a black belt in Judo, moved to town and began to teach us Judo out of a garage. Now we want to pass that knowledge on to the next generation.

My name is Josiah Mann and I am a 27 year old Springfield native. I have two brothers, Jonathan and Jesse, who are 26 and 19 respectively. Six years ago mine and Jonathan's lives were changed for the better when my uncle, a black belt in Judo, moved into town and began to teach us Judo in our garage. My brother found it so valuable that when our uncle was no longer able to teach us, he packed up everything and moved to Columbia, Missouri, to continue train.  Our younger brother Jesse had just graduated high school at the time and Jonathan, knowing how much Judo had positively impacted him, convinced Jesse to move to Columbia with him and study Judo as well.

Jonathan recently received his black belt and at our uncle's request has moved back to Springfield to start his own academy so we can pass on what we have learned to our 12 cousins (ranging in age from 8-18) as well as anyone else who we can fit in the door.

We believe starting a Judo school is an important service to the community. There is a tremendous need in our society for training in morality and integrity - especially for young people. While most people understand Judo to be a beautiful martial art, from our own training we know it to also be an invaluable tool for teaching objectivity and virtue and for helping people come to a correct self-image.

That's where you come in. You can contribute to this cause by donating to help cover some of the expenses. There are a few large expenses in starting a Judo school, namely the expense of Judo mats (upwards of $2500), monthly rent, and we will be purchasing gi's for the kids who can't afford to buy their own (around $100 each for the double weave gis necessary to hold up for Judo).

Every penny counts and any money we end up with after the initial expenses will be put back into the club - none of us are taking any profit.

Thank you for your donation and please feel free to message us with any questions and we'll be happy to respond.
