In the beginning of February Yvonne began feeling very weak and her eyes were noted to be yellow by a family friend. She had been evaluated by Gastroenterology and after seemingly no help was found here in Asheville, Dan drove Yvonne to Duke University. She was soon transfered to Chapel Hill Hospital and found to have severe liver damage. They placed Yvonne on a Liver Transplant list while the Docotors attempted to save her liver and determine the extent of the damage. The choice was then made by Yvonne and Dan to pursue a Liver transplant when diagnostics revealed that her liver was mostly necrotic and functioning at only 5% at best. Time was becoming an issue for a desirable prognosis, and the wait was obviously irmeasurable. Yvonne had been in very good health most her life, and it was because of this history that she was also placed very high on the waiting list. The welcomed call came sooner than they expected, and they began preping Yvonne for transplant, all the while knowing that this could be cancelled even at the very last minute. After approximately 9 hours of surgery in the very early morning hours of March 21st Yvonne received a donor liver. Her recovery will be long, she will have to take life long medications and they will not be able to come home for the first month or so due to the follow up visits at the clinic in Chapel Hill. In an attempt to assist with the many needs, we have set up accounts on their behalf and fundraisers are being planned to help the woman that has always helped others. We are ever thankful for your thoughts and prayers. Please continue to pray for Yvonne, Dan, their girls Olivia and Isabelle as they move on in their new normal life.
