Friends and family,

This Summer I will be spending four weeks in Uganda with 19 other Teach First Participants and Ambassadors. We will be working with Volunteer Uganda to deliver a Limited Resource Teacher Training Programme to local teachers in the rural Bwindi region.

Teachers in the UK are in the privileged position of having access to a wealth of training programmes, teaching expertise and cutting-edge education research. As a teacher I see access to training and research as an essential part of being able to provide my students with a good education and therefore better life chances.

In rural Uganda teachers do not have the same opportunities. The aim of the Limited Resource Teacher Training Programme is to share current pedagogical thinking with local teachers through a residential training programme. The programme will be entirely funded by our team and Volunteer Uganda, offering local teachers access to free training that would otherwise be completely unavailable to them.

It costs £15 for a local teacher to participate in the programme. I am looking to raise a minimum £300 so that I can sponsor places for 20 teachers.

To raise money for the project I am running the St Albans Half Marathon on Sunday 9th June. Many of you will know that I am a keen runner and I am looking to achieve a personal best by completing the course in less than 2 hours. My last half marathon time was 2:15:39, so I definitely have some training to do and 108 days to do it.

I'm grateful for any spare change you are able to donate!
