HELP ME VOLUNTEER TEACHING ENGLISH IN VIETNAM: At the end of August 2012 I am headed to Nam Dinh City in Northern Vietnam to work as a volunteer English teacher as a participant of a great new movement called Young People without Borders (YPWB). Established by the Foundation for Young Australians (FYA) YPWB provides an opportunity for young Australians who demonstrate an active commitment to and engagement with their local communities to expand their horizons by volunteering in countries throughout the Asia-Pacific region. As an inaugural participant or ‘trailblazer’ of the YPWB movement I will spend 5 months teaching English language skills to high school students in Northern Vietnam. For the students I will be teaching learning to speak fluently in English can be an invaluable skill as it enables them to effectively engage in the rapidly growing tourism and foreign business opportunities that are swiftly developing within their communities. All money that you donate will go directly towards assisting me with the upfront financial costs of undertaking my placement abroad. As an added bonus, for every $100 raised I will be donating an additional $15 to support the GLOBAL HELMET VACCINE INITIATIVE (GHVI), a partner of the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety. This initiative provides helmets and road safety education to Vietnamese children in order to reduce the devastating outcomes of traumatic head injuries and fatalities (35 deaths occur on Vietnam roads each day) that occur on roads due to a lack of helmet use. Just $15 can provide a Vietnamese child with a helmet which reduces chance of injury by 69% and death by 42%. Please consider how you could help support both of these worthwhile causes and donate here. Your generosity is greatly valued and appreciated.
