Tragedy struck on December 31 and Nairelyn lost her hand.

Nairelyn had her first child at 13. It is really quite amazing that she is still together with the father, Welinton, 5 years later. Now she is 18 and he is 25. They have 3 children. Walner is 5, Wilma 3, and Wilbert 7 months.

They have worked very hard to build a life for themselves. They were gifted a small piece of land and built a shack out of old wood, tin, and cardboard.

There is no bathroom. They shower with a bucket outside behind a curtain.

They sleep in one room on old rotten mattresses with no sheets.

Their little shack has a dirt floor.

In December a man came claiming that he owned the property that had been gifted to them. He took a machete, slashed her back and leg and then cut off her right hand. Terribly sad. The man is in jail but that doesn't give her back her hand. She can't even care for her baby.

The above photo was taken 6 weeks later when we measured to help with a possible prosthesis. She will have to have an additional amputation to make a prosthetic possible.

We are now raising funds to build them a home. Thanks to Walt and Roxane from North Carolina who purchased a plot of land for their home.
