Kinnaman Coyotes with Sensory Needs hasn't added a story.
Crying, hitting, running out of the classroom, and yelling. Many students displaying these behaviors as a result of sensory needs that can be easily met at school. Short sensory breaks would enable many of these students to return to their classrooms equipped to engage in classroom activities. Sensory breaks and tools for these students would also help them to self-regulate and engage with their peers in more healthy ways, enabling them to build friendships and increase belonging.
Kinnaman is a community of 620 students in grades K-5. We have students throughout the school that would be able to learn to self-regulate through short trips to a sensory room. Some students would use this occasionally, while others would use it several times a day. These supplies would be available for all students to use, from students in the general education setting to students with special needs. Some of the 94 students, or 15%, of the student body who are receiving special education services may access the equipment more frequently. Having these supplies available to all students will provide a safe, consistent setting that values emotional health and also enables students to more fully access to their education.

Your support towards this project would have a dramatic towards positively impacting towards helping students regulate at school in order to be able to access their education. Each of the items on this list would be used by many children throughout the school day. There are children that need to use the squeeze machine in order to regulate; a trip to the sensory room and using the squeeze machine will help them to feel better at school and be able to engage in classroom activities. Other children need five minutes in the hammock swing with the subdued lighting and calming music in the sensory room in order to help them to feel calm and ready to re-enter their classroom.
Thank you for supporting the children at Kinnaman Elementary. The sensory room will be available to all Kinnaman Coyotes, whether they use it multiple times throughout the day, or just once in a while. Your support will positively impact all 620 children who are currently Kinnaman students as well as many more in future years. Thank you for supporting Kinnaman students.
