My Name is Nastassia Davis and I am the Founder of the Perinatal Health Equity Foundation. This year in partnership with Families For Equity, and Baby Please Birth Services, we will be hosting  New Jersey's 2nd Annual Black Breastfeeding Extravaganza in Newark, NJ.  Black Breastfeeding Week is a national event now in its 7th year,  which is aimed at celebrating, sustaining, and  improving breastfeeding initiation rates in black women and their families. Black breastfeeding rates continue to remain significantly lower than white women while infant mortality rates continue to rise.

Areas of Essex County including Newark, Irvington, and East Orange have been identified by the New Jersey Department of Health as target areas for improvement due to their high black infant mortality rate. Evidence tells us that breastfeeding plays a significant role in improving infant health outcomes and reducing infant death rates.

We are asking for your support to offer this event to the community. We will provide education and support to assist black families in a fun and informative way, in addition to providing supplies like breast pumps, baby carriers, cloth diapers, and milk storage supplies,  and other essential breastfeeding accessories.

Last year we were able to serve 60 families, we'd like to double that for 2019!

Our target donation amount is $100, however donations in any amount are welcomed and appreciated. We thank you in advance for your generosity and commitment to help support our community.  We are a federally qualified 501(c) 3 non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible to the extend of the law.

Yours in Lactation,

Nastassia K. Davis & Takisha Miller
