I received an urgent letter from my friend in Engari Uganda.  The people in his village have been suffering without water for 4 months. I will attach his letter below, hoping you will take the time to read it and fully understand how desperate his community is. They’ve applied to the Ugandan government for aid, but they are so far down the list that it doesn’t look like any assistance will be available for a very long time.  The people must walk 4 to 6 km to collect water in Jerri cans from the nearest source.  Many of the youth that would normally help with this task are not available because they are attending school so it is up to the elderly and very young children to take on the responsibility of daily water collection.  These people desperately need a water tank similar to the tank we built at the secondary school two years ago, only larger in size.  A 60,000 liter tank would cost 10 million UG shillings or 4,000 US dollars.

I hope to tap into your Christmas generosity by requesting some assistance in raising money for this very important cause.  I would love to be able to raise enough money to cover the entire cost of this project.  For previous supporters, I haven’t forgotten Esther and Davis and their education costs.  My husband and I will continue to support their education expenses.  Please read Owen’s letter and consider making a donation.  Clean, fresh water is so readily available in Canada it’s easy to forget how essential it is to our daily lives.  Imagine how wonderful it would be to provide an entire village with clean water. We can make this happen.  No donation is too small and every cent I raise will go directly to cover the cost of the water tank.  Please consider donating.  Your donations can be made through PayPal, MasterCard, Visa, or you can contact me directly to make a donation.  Whatever method works best for you will work for me.  I will collect the funds and wire the money to a secure account which was set up in Uganda when I was there.  This account requires two signatures of people that have been preselected by a group of foreign volunteers that worked in this community and continue to offer this community support (I am one of them). If you have a service club or school that would be interested in helping, I would be happy to speak to them and share my experience with the people in Uganda.

My friend Owen's letter…

Oh my Gosh dear auntie michelle!!!
I can't believe that p'ple have suffered 4 months with out water! No action by leaders?!
You can imagine children, old women & men carrying heavy jerricans of water from 4-6km for their domestic use! The youth who would carry are in schools & towns. I pity the children who are not yet in schl and the old p'ple at home:( even the water they fetch in ponds is full of algea, tadpole and brown in colour. This village is in danger I think!
The statics show that there is high typhoid & mortality recorded per year and this could be due to this dirty water!
How I wish this village c'ld get clean water or get water near to the vulnerable group. who can save you my fellows!?
My every day prayer is to see these p'ple happy with water near to them and at least improve on their health
All in all to me, this can be solved by a big water tank given to the village.
"Hope is the only good common to every man" b
I will keep my prayers & hopes alive for you fellows!
