Kelsey Mincher hasn't added a story.
Hi my name is Kelsey... That's me above with my nieces ;)
I'm 17 years old and I'm shaving my head to raise funds for Christies and also fund a trip to Disneyland Paris for my 2 nieces who lost their mummy to ovarian cancer last year.
My sister in law Emma was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, the day before her 18th birthday. She had to have her ovary removed and go through chemotherapy at The Christie. After the treatment Emma was told that because of the chemo it was highly unlikely that she'd be able to have children. She was given the all clear and was then in remission.
To everyone's surprise in June 2010 Emma found out she was expecting a baby. In Feb 2011, a beautiful baby girl was born and Emma & my brother Stefan were over the moon. They had a miracle baby.
Shortly after Lilly-Mae was born... Emma discovered she was expecting again. They couldn't believe it. This pregnacy didn't run as smooth as the first and Emma had a feeling something wasn't right. She was in & out of hospital during the latter part of the pregnancy but doctors kept telling her everything was fine... In Feb 2012 Emma gave birth to her 2nd baby girl.
Emma wasn't feeling too good after the birth but her pains and tiredness were dismissed as after pains and she was allowed home. 2 weeks after the birth of Molly- Rae, Emma collapsed and was rushed to hospital. Her worst fears were realised. In the area where her ovary was, cancer had returned.
Emma had to have a hysterectomy and also part of her bowel removed to rid the cancer. She had to go through gruelling Chemotherapy again which made her very ill. In August she was given the all clear yet again but in November it returned and she was told the devastating news that there was nothing they could do. They told her she would be lucky to make Christmas.
With this Emma was determined to still be around for Christmas and she started to do memory boxes for her 2 girls. Although carrying a large tumour Emma was able to spend Christmas with her family. She set herself goals. New Year was her next goal. Emma decided she also wanted to take her girls to Disneyland Paris for their birthdays in February. New Year passed and Emma was fighting.
Unfortunately in the middle of January Emma took a turn for the worst and she realised her dream of taking the girls to Disneyland Paris for their birthdays was very unlikely and she arranged a Disney themed party instead. By February Emma was really poorly and had decided to go into Willow Wood Hospice. They were fantastic & they allowed Emma & Stefan to have the Disney themed party at the hospice because Emma was too ill to leave. She was gutted that she was unable to take her babies to Disneyland but was happy to bring Disney to them. 4 days later, on 20 Feb 2013, Emma passed away.
I would like to raise money towards The Christie where several family members & friends have been and are being treated and also help make Emma's dream come true by getting her girls to Disneyland Paris for their birthday in February 2015...
Thanks in advance to all who help make this happen :)
