In Ghana, there is no systematic Emergency Medical Service and also great lack of recourses and health care professionals. Adomako Adjapong founded Medics Without Borders to help change this. MWB works towards making quality health care available

Adomako Adjapong was born into farming in Ghana. He has, throughout his life, gained training as a teacher, U.S. Combat medic and opthalmology assistant. Currently he works within health administration and he has had an eye on conditions in his home country of Ghana for long. Adomako started the NPO called "Medics without borders", not to be confused with "Doctors without borders", which is an organization that allow all ranges of health personnel volunteer in Ghana to give of the knowledge and experience that the people of Ghana do not have access to.

Resources are scarce, geography and governmental priorities as well as poverty stands in the way for the public of Ghana to get proper primary- and specialized health care. Medics Without Borders' ambitions and goals are to slowly put all the pieces together to reform the way care is given, and the access to resources for the public of Ghana, putting pressure on emergency- and urgent medical care.

There are true stories of badly injured civilians arriving the ER in the back of a pick-up truck, and get covered in a blanket without further assessment, because of the lack of - or cost of - taking an X-ray, and the patients low chance of survival.

Adomako has done something about this, he put up a clinic with healthcare available at reduced cost for the population, and his target is making quality health care free. This is a cause worth supporting!

As 2 Norwegian Ambulance Workers ourselves, we wish to dedicate some effort to MWB, helping raise funds and volunteering. We're planning to go for a period of 30 days for our first time, and for this  we'll need funds. We're aiming to reach a target of USD25.000, where $8.000 will go into covering expenses, and $17.000 will go directly to MWB's causes.

During our period as volunteers, we'll help training ambulance crew, observe the day-to-day challenges within the EMS, contribute with skills and knowledge gained in Norway to help organizing systems and protocols as well as keep raising funds and assisting the organization in the future. We will also record video from Ghana, and the organization's work, to make an informational video of the situation and the cause.

With time, one of our own goals is to put up an NPO-office for Scandinavia / Northern Europe, and make volunteering and exchange between Ghana and these countries more accessible - contributing to get skilled workers to help the people of this mid-west african country.

  • Please help us reach the goal, and give for the cause of urgent and quality health care in Ghana!
