In July of 2012 I went to the emergency room after finding a large lump in my throat. Unfortunately I was uninsured so the emergency room was my only option. After five days in the hospital I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer. A month later the surgeon removed my thyroid along with a four centimeter tumor. The follow up was a large dose of radioactive iodine that is meant to kill off any remaining cancer cells that may have migrated to other parts of the body. Luckily for me this type of cancer is very treatable and usually has a good outcome. As far as I know it was successful. The financial burden however was overwhelming, forcing me into bankruptcy.

I am currently due for nuclear medicine scans to find out if there are any cancer cells left in my body. These tests are particularly important in the first year after treatment, especially for me because my tumor was so large. I am lucky enough to be insured through my employer, but my deductible is $4000 and the cost of the tests far exceeds that amount. I am trying to raise this money because frankly it would take me several years to pay off that amount with my current income, and its very possible I may need more scans next year. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You and God Bless
