I am grateful to all of my friends and family who have donated. These funds are not mine, they are yours, given to me to use for a specific purpose. Therefore, I am but a steward and today, I give an account of my stewardship. More ...

I started the journey to receive a service dog eight weeks ago when, because my neuromuscular condition called, Spinal Bulbar Muscular Atrophy or Kennedy’s Disease had worsened impairing daily activities.

With only two weeks of online fundraising left, I have been blessed to raise $301. With those funds and some of my own, I have paid $400 toward the purchase of Toppurr, my Service Dog, bought a dog bed, bought a reflective vest, bought a harness, and bought several Service Dog in Training patches and a Service Dog in Training collar tag. I have also prepared my house for the arrival of Toppurr. By getting gates and crates out of storage.

I also want to thank all of my friends and family who want to donate but are unable to. Your thoughts and prayers have had a greater impact than you know. I know that Toppurr and our current training plan is a direct answer to those prayers.

The first trainer I consulted estimated a cost of $15,000 - $20,000.

  • We found Toppurr from a local breeder with great referrals for $600
  • He said that a quality dog from a quality breeder would cost $2,000
  • He said training would be private, weekly/bi-weekly,take 18-24 months, and cost $10,000 - $15,000 (plus $100/week travel cost between Pocatello and Boise)
  • We found a trainer who does small group training for $99 per four week class (plus $100/week travel cost between Pocatello and Salt Lake City)
  • The secound trainer told us that most "Service Dog" training is just basic dog training until the end and she suggested that we do the bulk of our training (Puppy - Canine Good Citizen) through our local Petco. Approximately $600 with no travel costs
  • Then do our Service Dog specific training with her that is 3 - 4 classes at $99 or $300 - $400 (plus $100/week travel cost between Poky and SLC or $1,200 - $1,600)
  • That means our final cost will be between $2,800 and $3,200.

My faith has taught me that that is not coincidence, but is divine intervention, brought about by the many prayers offered on my behalf. I thank each and everyone of you my friends and family. Your donations, your prayers, and your positive thoughts towards me and Toppurr have made it possible for he and I to work together Service Dog and Served Human.

Thank You,
