Jordyn Melia Doakes was born on November 12, 2012, with a rare congenital defect called Tibial Hemimelia. Help us offset the enormous cost of saving Jordyn's leg, and the expenses that go along with multiple out of state procedures.

Jordyn Melia Doakes was born on November 12, 2012, with a rare congenital defect called Tibial Hemimelia. This was heartbreaking for her mother Carmen because Jordyn's Aunt (Carmen's sister) was born with it too, and had both legs amputated at the age of 3. This birth defect is where the tibia is missing in one or both legs. In Jordyn's case it is her right leg, and her ankle joint and knee are malformed as well, which causes a clubbed foot appearance. As Carmen went from doctor to doctor, each told her to "just take it off," but she had seen her sister struggle and be left on the sidelines as a pediatric amputee, and that would not acceptable for her gorgeous, sweet Jordyn.

Carmen searched for weeks and ultimately found Dr. Paley at the Paley Institute in West Palm Beach, Florida at St. Mary’s Hospital.  This renowned surgeon works with Tibial Hemimelia patients from all over the world, and is one of only two doctors in the US that specializes in Jordyn's condition. Dr Paley promised Carmen two things: First, that he would not amputate Jordyn's leg, and second, that one day Jordyn would walk...they just had to get there.

Jordyn had her first of many surgeries on October 30th which was a limb lengthening procedure  From the pictures attached you can see this must be excruciating, as is the therapy that goes along with it.

The costs of moving away from home (GA to FL), staying in a hotel during procedures, not being able to work, plus all the medical costs that insurance won't cover are astronomical, and even though Carmen has been actively, vigorously, fundraising for 8 months, they have only raised $6600. That won't even begin to cover what they will need, so the Ride to Give wants to contribute to help this brave little girl walk one day.

Jordyn has a GoFundMe page and because they need help from all angles we are not asking them to take it people unfamiliar with RTG, but who are familiar with Jordyn, have a place to donate too. For our ARMY we have created this FundRazr page with a donation goal of $15,000.

Tomorrow is Jordyn's first birthday and she deserves a chance to keep her leg and lead a normal life. Let's show this brave, tenacious family that the Ride to Give Army can move mountains!
