Our Mission:

Our names are Jack, Tony, Gwyn, and Jordan. Last month, we were asked if we could teach 200 young people how to express themselves with confidence and conviction at Debate Camp Rwanda 2013. Now, we have 4 weeks to raise £2500 to make it happen.

Our Story:

We are debate trainers and together we are members of the Central London Debating Society (CLDS), a voluntary organisation with over 1000 members that provides a platform for anyone who wants to speak their mind on issues they care about in a supportive environment. Between us, we have run training courses for charities, businesses, and schools, competed and judged at numerous regional, national, and international debating tournaments, and staged public debates in the House of Commons.

December's debate camp is the brainchild of student Sam Baker, project manager of Idebate Rwanda. He approached us shortly after arriving in the UK and asked us if we would fly to Rwanda to deliver a national debate training programme that he and his colleagues were planning. Fast forward and four weeks from now, we will arrive in Kigali where we will spend ten days training over 200 young debaters from almost 30 schools across the country.

A developing nation where women outnumber men in Parliament, Rwanda now aspires to become a medium wealth economy by 2020. Sam and Idebate Rwanda see debating as the key to achieving this goal by teaching the leaders of tomorrow how to solve the most pressing problems in their communities today through critical thinking and open discourse.

Why we need your help:

Idebate Rwanda are funding the camp thanks to a generous donation from international charity, the Goethe Institute, but they cannot cover all their costs without charging an admission fee. However, with your help, we can keep the camp free for all 200 students.

We have four weeks to raise £2500, so we are organising a series of fundraisers between now and the end of November, including panel discussions on gender equality, education, economic prosperity, and conflict prevention.

Come along to any one of our events or donate just £5 today and keep Debate Camp Rwanda 2013 free.
