Kim Pape Murray hasn't added a story.
Warrenton Classmates: Talked to Scott Slatten today. He said it is
okay for me to let you guys know, his cancer is back. It's been just
slightly over a year since his bone marrow and stem cell transplant.
It's now back again in his bones and his blood. He will have to do
chemo 2 x week and radiation 5 days a week. That has not started yet,
but will in the future. It will not be a cure, it will only keep it at
bay, IF it works.
He's had two stem cell / bone marrow transplants, a third is
not possible. He has a tumor in his chin that will have to have
radiation for (having radiation on your facial area is not good,
causes burning). The tumor in his chin has wrapped around his jaw and
inner ear (balance is off) causing him to have falls recently. He has
a walker to use now for stability. He also some small ones in the
brain.
He was honest with me and said prognosis is maybe 1 to 1 1/2
yrs if the chemo / radiation can keep it under control. I'm telling
you this because if anyone would like to re-connect / talk / visit /
offer him rides to and from Vandalia to St. Peters for the radiation,
that would be appreciated. Right now his nephew does it all and it'd
be nice for him to have a break occasionally. Vandalia Mo. is approx 1
hr up hwy 61 from Wentzville. So, it is a little bit of a haul to
drive to Vandalia, back to St. Peters with Scott then take him back
home to Vandalia. Plus waiting for him to get the radiation and / or
chemo. No illusions there. Just saying IF................. Thank you
Dave Dehart for helping him, you're a great friend. Scott really
appreciates it.
He has considered not continuing treatment but if treatment
means he can have one more year with his 12 year old son, then he
wants to do it. He knows he will not be cured, but he just wants as
much time with his son as he can get. I think we can all understand
that. He is very brave.
OR - if you just want to offer support via a phone call or
visit now and then or send well wishes and Prayers. Or, if you'd like
to send letters or cards, I can pm you his address and / or phone
number.
This is a bit hard for me to write but I know how caring and
supportive all of you are with and for each other. SO - I just thought
it would be good for you to know, before it's too late. At the very
least, please keep him in your Prayers.
His computer is not currently working (until John and I get up
there to fix / reboot it) so he will not be on facebook to see any
messages, etc. Fyi.
