As many folks are likely aware, one our friends (and co-worker) Dean Laponsee (Field tech out of Ottawa, ON) went into the hospital a little over 2 weeks ago with severe pneumonia. His liver and kidneys had shut down and he went into a coma. Because his blood was toxic from the lack of kidney or liver function, he ended up with severe infection in both legs. On June 18th, the doctors had to amputate both of his legs below the knees in order to rid his body of infection as he was not recovering. He is now, finally, in stable condition and has had moments of consciousness and is getting to a point where he is aware and trying to communicate. They have counselors standing by to help him cope with the loss of his legs but at this point, he has not been conscious enough to know what has happened.

A temporary fund has been setup to assist Dean and his family during these difficult times. We are working with Scotia Bank to setup a local fund as well and all proceeds that are donated will be transferred to this account once it is active.

Please pass this along to any and all of Dean’s friends and co-workers you may know. Donations can be made via PayPal in the form of account transfers or credit card by simply clicking the “Donate” button below.
