On June 11th, on my way home from work I glanced to the side of the road on my usual route and noticed this little black dog hobbling along a side walk onto some grass and down the driveway of a business. I thought to myself, don't stop, you're not allowed to bring home anymore animals but my heart wouldn't let me. I screeched to a halt, swung a u-turn in the middle of a busy road and turned down into the driveway of the business where I found a small long hair dachshund absolutely worn out. He was hot and panting and whining. I could tell he did not have the best control of his legs and I thankfully has a leash in the car and I scooped him up and got him cooled down and headed home.

He had no collar, tags or microchip. He reeked of urine, was covered in fleas and it didn't look like his nails had been trimmed in months. I have no idea how long he had been in this condition and on the run.

Long story short I found who may have been previous owners. They intended on having him put to sleep after he was injured. The vet suggested they not because he had some feeling. They decided to rehome him and who knows what happened after that.

They say he is 4-6 years old. His name is Rascal. He has minimal use of his back legs and looks hunchback, he has some bowel and bladder incontinence.

I plan on taking him to the vet and make sure he is not in pain, and see if there is anything I can do to help him. He need to be evaluated for a possible spinal cord injury.

I refuse to pass him off or take him to the pound. He deserves much more than that after what he has been through recently.

Once I have an exact estimate I will post it up.
He will need a basic evaluation, Heartworm test, fecal, shots, microchip, and neuter (if possible) to start.
Eventually he will need a dental cleaning and possibly surgery.
