May 6th my mom was having severe pain, "worse than childbirth" she told me on my drive to work, but I wasn't really listening. I should have told her to go to the Dr. MY daughter got a call from her around 2pm and went to her house to help her but ended up calling 911 and following the ambulance to Riverside County Regional Center.
My mom had a ruptured bowel and it put her in septic shock.
It has been two weeks in the ICU and I have been off work for most all of it, to be by her side as she is sedated and scared. I am applying for FMLA, but it doesn't pay. Just protects you from being fired.

Her stomach wound is not healing right, they had about 15 inches of staples closing it, but first her organs swelled so they had to open her up again, then they closed her back up on Mothers day, then it still was not healing right so 5-17 they opened it back up and are trying a vacuum method to close it up slowly. I watched the whole thing and saw more than I ever wanted of her insides. (they want me to be able to clean the wound when she comes home)
Her COPD is the bigger problem STOP SMOKING NOW!
She cannot breath without the machine and several drug treatments almost every two hours.
For a few days May 13th -15th, she gave up hope and asked all of us repeatedly to "unplug her" "turn her off" and more that was just heartbreaking.
She is now finally in better spirits and she can write us and text.
Anyway, feel like I am going through hell.
The picture is the last I took of her before hospitalization. We went to the beach for a day during spring break with my daughter.
I knew then her health was not good, but it was all breathing problems.
I could add a picture I took of her in the hospital, but I am desperate to respect her dignity as much as possible in this situation. I do believe she would be embarrassed or ashamed that I was asking people for help. She never has. My mom donates regularly to Animal, wildlife, nature and humanitarian organizations. Small amounts, but she always has. I have always participated in walk a thons helping to raise money for the heart association and many other organizations.
We always try to do our part.
My moms space rent is more than her SSI, and neither her nor I have been working. I am not sure how long she will be in the hospital, but I appreciate any donations you can give.
